Steam cleaning or pet-focused extraction?

The BISSELL Little Green HydroSteam Pet 3618 and Shark StainStriker PX206BRN are portable machines designed for targeted messes. But they approach the job differently: BISSELL adds selectable steam modes, while this Shark package focuses on two cleaning solutions and several spot-cleaning attachments.

Our recommendation: choose based on the surfaces you need to clean, the type of mess, and the ongoing care required—not simply which machine advertises the strongest stain removal.

Research-based comparison, not a hands-on test. We have not independently measured stain removal, drying time, noise, or long-term reliability. Product configurations and Amazon offers may change.

What does steam actually add?

BISSELL describes three modes: SteamWash combines steam and formula for tougher messes, Steam loosens stains and refreshes certain surfaces, and Wash uses water and formula for routine cleaning. The manufacturer specifically lists Wash Mode for some pet-related messes; that is a reason not to assume steam is the right setting for every spill.

The Shark uses its Deep Clean Pro and OXY solutions with extraction, rather than a steam-cleaning mode. This is a difference in cleaning method, not proof that one model will remove every stain more effectively.

Carpets, couches, stairs, and car seats: check compatibility first

Before using either machine, check the fabric or flooring manufacturer’s care instructions and test in an inconspicuous location. BISSELL says upholstery marked W or WS may be suitable under its instructions, while dry-clean-only or solvent-only materials should not be treated with the HydroSteam. Even a water-cleanable fabric is not automatically safe for steam.

For car interiors, avoid saturating seats, electronics, seams, and areas with embedded wiring or sensors. Check the vehicle manufacturer’s cleaning guidance. Neither machine is a substitute for identifying the cause of recurring stains or odors.

BISSELL Little Green HydroSteam Pet 3618

The 3618 includes a 64-ounce clean-water tank, a 51-ounce dirty-water tank, a 5-inch stain tool, and a multi-surface attachment. BISSELL documents a three-year limited warranty and recommends compatible cleaning formulas. Steam modes require waiting for the steam-ready indicator.

Consider BISSELL if: you have surfaces that permit the appropriate steam mode and want that additional cleaning function. Think twice if: your main jobs are delicate upholstery or surfaces where heat and moisture are restricted.

Shark StainStriker PX206BRN — three-tool package

The Amazon listing you selected identifies PX206BRN with a 3.5-inch stain tool, crevice tool, pet-hair tool, and Deep Clean Pro and OXY formulas. The package offers targeted stain and hair-removal accessories but does not advertise a steam mode. Avoid confusing this package with the separately named StainStriker HairPro PX251.

Consider Shark if: your priority is targeted upholstery, carpet, and pet-related cleanup with the included accessories. Think twice if: you specifically want steam capability or prefer a machine that uses only one cleaning solution.

Don’t overlook the ongoing cleaning-solution costs

Both machines need cleaning and drying after use. BISSELL recommends approved BISSELL formula for its machine. Shark’s StainStriker system uses two compatible formulas, so compare the cost and availability of both refills. Do not put one manufacturer’s solution into the other’s machine unless the respective instructions expressly allow it.

To compare ownership cost, write down the purchase price, included formula quantities, refill prices, frequency of use, and the time needed to clean the hose, tools, and tanks. We are not presenting a precise annual cost because usage varies and current Amazon refill prices have not been verified.

Which one would we choose?

For steam-compatible cleaning jobs: shortlist BISSELL. For pet-hair-focused accessories and conventional extraction: shortlist the Shark PX206BRN package. If both suit your surfaces, compare the complete Amazon offers and consumable costs rather than assuming the higher-priced machine is better.

Neither option should be described as universally superior without matched testing. If you only need to address a small occasional spill, the extra features of either machine may not justify the expense.

A practical cleaning and storage checklist

  • Check the surface-care label and test a hidden area.
  • Vacuum loose dirt or pet hair before wet cleaning where appropriate.
  • Use only manufacturer-approved cleaning solution and follow dilution instructions.
  • Extract excess liquid without oversaturating the surface.
  • Empty and rinse the dirty-water tank, clean accessible tools, and allow components to dry before storage.
